Those recasting the old J.J. Newberry Department Store building downtown into a mixed retail and residential project will ask the Planning Commission on Thursday to let them add 10 more condominium units. Interstices, Inc., the Long Beach-based architects who were behind the design of the neighboring Kress and Walker lofts, will seek approval from the commission to modify the 433 Pine Ave. project by boosting the number of units from 18 to 28.
