Rosie The Riveter Historic Park Begins Taking Shape
During World War II, millions of American women left their homes to work in production plants and other sectors of civilian service in an effort to support their country. In American history, these women are referred to as Rosie the Riveters, adopting the iconic image of a strong and determined woman rolling up the sleeve of her work shirt with the phrase “We Can Do It!” emblazoned behind her. In Long Beach, that can-do attitude will be honored on Monday at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Rosie the Riveter Park and Interpretive Center situated at Clark Avenue and Conant Street.
